What Is Canine Hoopers?

Have you ever seen dog agility? Speedy dogs race beside their handlers over jumps, through weave poles, and up and down a seesaw. It looks fun, right? The challenge is that agility isn’t suitable for every dog or every owner. The equipment can be tricky to train; it can put pressure on a dog’s body, and not everyone can keep up with a fast-moving pup.

That’s where Canine Hoopers comes in. Hoopers is a flowing, low-impact sport using hoops (with no bases), barrels, and tunnels. Dogs navigate smooth courses with no jumping or sharp turns, guided by their humans through calm, clear cues. It’s all about teamwork, having fun, and building connections.

Who Is It For?

The beauty of hoopers is that it really is for every dog and every handler.

  • Puppies building early focus and confidence
  • Teenage dogs who need an outlet for energy and a job to do
  • Adults who enjoy learning new skills in a fun way
  • Senior dogs who still love training but need something gentle on their bodies
  • Handlers of any age or ability; you guide with distance handling, so you don’t need to run or keep up beside your dog

If you’re looking for a low-pressure sport that welcomes all breeds, ages, and fitness levels, hoopers is designed with you in mind.

Why Train Hoopers With Chapter One

We build teams: We focus on strengthening the bond between you and your dog while giving you practical skills to communicate clearly, handle courses, and enjoy the game together. It’s not just about teaching obstacles; it’s about learning to work as a team and celebrating progress along the way.

Kind methods, clear timing: We train with positive reinforcement so learning feels good and sticks. Trainer Hannah has completed the Karen Pryor Academy Clicker Training Professional course and is a Canine Hoopers World Instructor and Judge.

A trainer who meets you where you are: Hannah listens first. She keeps class calm, sets you up for simple wins, and gives small, practical homework that fits real-life scenarios.

Small by design: Fewer dogs. More space to think and try again. You’ll get thoughtful coaching in a calm space.

Progress you can feel at home: Better focus on walks. Easier vet visits. Quicker to settle after excitement. Skills that carry into the moments that matter.

Lifetime support: You are not on your own between classes. Enjoy lifetime access to our Facebook community for resources and encouragement, plus direct guidance from Hannah when you need it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Hoopers suitable for puppies and seniors?

Yes. It is low impact and taught at your dog’s pace, which makes it gentle on growing bodies and aging joints. There are no jumps or tight turns (just walking or running under hoops and moving through soft, flowing courses). It suits puppies building foundations, adults who enjoy a challenge, and seniors who still love to play.

Do I need to run with my dog?

No. Some teams like to walk or run alongside their dog, but you don’t have to. One of the main goals in hoopers is teaching your dog to navigate the course confidently and independently. This means you can guide them with distance handling, even standing still while directing them from afar.

It’s also one of the reasons hoopers is so inclusive. Unlike agility, handlers who aren’t very mobile, or even those using wheelchairs, can still take part and enjoy the game with their dogs.

What if my dog is reactive or easily distracted?

We keep classes small and supportive. If your dog needs extra space or a different starting point, we will talk through options to set you both up for success.

What do I need to bring?

A comfortable collar or harness, a standard lead, and high-value treats. We will guide you through the rest.

How do I get started?

Send us a quick message. We will talk through your goals, your dog’s needs, and the next available intake to make sure Hoopers is the right fit.
